The following map displays locations of NZMS surveys in waterbodies in the Great Lakes region. Surveys in Michigan were conducted beginning in 2012 by Oakland University, Michigan State University, Trout Unlimited, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. Sampling techniques included both physical and visual surveys (following methods in Tank et al. 2020) and environmental DNA methods (following methods created by Oakland University 2017). Only survey locations in which NZMS were found are included for Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, and Ohio (data from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the United States Geological Survey). No NZMS sightings have been reported in Indiana.
