Great Lakes Region

NZMS were first discovered in the Great Lakes in 1991 (Zaranko et al. 1997). Populations have since been detected in all Great Lakes except Lake Huron and in inland waters of the Great Lakes region. There are seven states in the Great Lakes region with NZMS populations in inland waters (USGS): Minnesota (2005), New York (1991), Ohio (2006), Pennsylvania (2005), Illinois (2006), Wisconsin (2005), and Michigan (2013).
